Casting: BLOG 7

Happy Saturday!!

The casting process is not as easy as I thought. I’ve casted 2 of my characters already, I just need the third lead  and ensemble. The thing about my male lead is I need him to really embrace the ‘ Mr. Cool’ character in everything especially mannerisms. Since my film opening isn’t including dialogue, the importance of the actors are crucial!!

I’m also awaiting on the rights to the song I want to use. If all works out with that song, my film opening would be around 2 minutes and 20 seconds or below, just because of the way the music plays out.

This upcoming week I want to work on my script outline and work on the shots and angles that I would like to display in the film.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Music: BLOG 6

Happy Wednesday!!

Today,  I sent an email to Sony to license the song I want to use in my film opening.
I'm very excited to hear back and to begin shooting my ideas.
I've been collaborating ideas with some classmates... my friend Autumn and I
(as seen in photo below) are both doing romance for our film opening, so it's great to get feedback and share thoughts!

.... Literally as I'm blogging, I received an email back from Sony with them saying they got my email and will review my request! YAY !!!

I have also been scoping out locations to film at. As my days of filming get closer, I'm going to call ahead and request permission to use the restaurant because I am planning on bringing in a camera set as well as lighting. One of my friends is going to help me film and come up with good shot ideas to bring out the best visuals of the film!

Color/Music: BLOG 5

Happy Sunday Night !!

I’ve spent my weekend looking for inspiration, listening to tons of music, and thinking about how I want to develop my film opening. I’ve just about finished my song search, I just need to make sure I take care of the details regarding copyright and all.

I want my film opening to be using colors such as blue, purples and reds. I want the setting to consist of a party or somewhere intimate, so I can create a tension between the two main characters. I’m still on the hunt for my lead male… but I do have a couple talented actors in mind!!

I think the overall idea of my film opening is going to be to introduce the main characters, as well as introduce a little bit of the conflicts that would connect dots later on in the film.

This film opening is aiming to be a storytelling montage… kind of. I haven’t completely thought out exactly how I’m going to execute this idea, but definitely getting closer and closer.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!! I’m super excited to be sharing my step by step thought process with this blog!! I will be posting my weekly schedule tomorrow!!

Decisions... BLOG 4

With heavy consideration, I believe I have found the storyline I want to use for my film opening.
Because I decided to do a romantic piece, I want my opening to be extremely dramatic and heartfelt.

With that being said, I want my film opening to have no dialogue. I chose this idea because when I was in musical theatre, I directed a one act piece that was silent. Winning critics' choice along with a ticket to the state competition, I knew the theme was powerful. If I can create something that can make people feel something without saying one word, then I have done my job. I know this won’t be easy, but I am determined to make sure this will tell a story.

I will do this by utilizing the opportunity of sound/music, which I have to carefully select, because it will be making up for whatever mood is not being set by dialogue. I am also looking for a highly qualified lead male role, because the acting needs to be at an advanced level for this opening. As far as for the female role, I feel I am qualified to play the part, as I have over 8 years experience of acting classes, as well as musical theatre experience. I want the cast of people I can trust, I have a lot at stake with this film, and I refuse to have anything or anyone that doesn't meet the professional standard I’m looking for, to be apart of it. Sounds harsh, but at the end of the day is the truth!!

Schedule for Week 2: BLOG 3

Hi everyone, so close to the weekend!!!

I'm currently in Media Studies class, brainstorming ideas for my film opening, which is a little frustrating because I have a lot to consider. I wanted to take a moment and deign a schedule for myself one week at a time rather then all at once. The reason I wanted to do this is because it it definitely easier to focus on the things i need to do in 7 days rather then for the next two months, plus it will be a lot more accurate! So here is what I put together for this week...

So this is my first blog of week 2. As shown on my schedule, I am going through a lot of intense and detailed story ideas. Its not as easy as I thought, but if it was easy it wouldn't feel right! By the end of the week, I am expected to have an outline of my script, all 3 blog posts done, as well as some kind of a storyboard or detailed play by play for the opening. Fun stuff!!

With that being said, I hope everyone has a great afternoon and stay tuned until tomorrow!

Similar Films: BLOG 2

Happy Tuesday!!

So now, after discussing the romance genre, I thought, a great way to help give some visual examples of all the information i posted about yesterday, would be to show some film openings following the genre. Because you know, sometimes videos are more eye catching than paragraphs of text! LOL!

So here are some of my favorite romance film openings, each to follow with an analysis of how it represents the genre

Fifty Shades of Grey

Although the storyline Fifty Shades of Grey differs quite dramatically from the film opening I’m planning on presenting, the movie has an extremely amazing use of their preferred colors in their opening. The greys, blues, blacks, and dark “grey” theme is executed throughout the opening, with the costume design following those colors, the rainy weather outside, as well as the set which included silver/grey buildings and cars. Both main characters are introduced in the 3 minutes, those of which you find details of their incomes, lifestyle, and even personality. The female love interest is sent to go interview with the male love interest, and it is up until that point that the opening is disclosed. Lots of questions bubble as she drives to meet him, but the answer was still up for grabs!

The Last Summer

The Last Summer was your typical romance movie about two worlds colliding into a summer fling, they then carry on to be the focal point of the movie with the relationship. When I was scrolling through movies to watch one night, I enjoyed the opening of this movie so much that in all honesty, was the only reason I continued watching. The opening consisted of a voice over, and although that is typically an easy way out, there was so many shots and scenes being cut from one to another, that it caught the attention of my eyes, and persuaded my thoughts to conclude this movie opening was the best part of this film! With that being said, it engaged the audience, made me want to continue watching, established a background story, and introduced all the main characters.

Exploring Genre: BLOG 1

Happy Monday Everyone!!

After spending my entire weekend at a volleyball tournament in Tampa, I’ve been super busy but found time to share with everyone my studies and ideas. As I take on this challenging, yet fun project, I wanted to make sure I selected the correct genre that I would be able to showcase to the best of my abilities. With that being said, I wanted to do ROMANCE!!!

The romance genre interested me the most because it has endless scenarios for the love interests to find themselves in. Of course, this film journey I am going to embark on is going to consist of a nonfiction storyline, it will give me more room to create a piece with more original ideas and thoughts, along with an intense underlying message that can be perceived in the nonfiction world.

I’m going to do an overview of the genre to ensure that my film opening consists of all the same elements of romantic content that fit in with the genre.

According to AMC’s ‘film site,’ “ Romance films are love stories, or affairs of the heart that center on passion, emotion, and the romantic, affectionate involvement of the main characters.”

This is a basic overview that I’m sure, if i asked a stranger what a romance film was, their answer would be pretty similar. So let’s get more in depth with more of the fascinating elements.

I was reading how ‘many romantic films do not have fairy-tale, wistful-thinking stories or happy endings,’ which inspired my storyline. I didn’t want to pursue the basic or ‘predictable’ love story. Definitely want to dive deeper and make the viewer work to find the answers!! The romantic plot line typically involves following the protagonists but I wanted to make more relations between protagonist and antagonist, I feel it will lead to a more intense intimate conclusion , rather than one that has been anticipated throughout. The romance genre follows a more emotional response from the viewers, similar to the comedy genre, or serious storylines, rather than based on narrative elements. Strong romance films find themselves focusing on pure, true love, with obstacles that add to the intensity. Obstacles that are heavily used in this genre to challenge the lovers could be sickness, discrimination, family restraints. According to Swoon Reads, there are 5 tips on creating romantic pieces these include:

Creating Dynamic Characters

Establish a realistic attraction

Build tension

Raise the steaks

Build intimacy

I plan on utilizing all five of these tips to create the a film opening to the best of my abilities following the genre!

Music Blog Post

MUSIC BLOG POST

As my group and I took on this music marketing project,we really dove into the alternative genre and how to create a presentation that intrigues listeners of alternative, as well as to those that don't. Trends of alternative music rely heavily on creating new and unique ways of marketing their music to their also unique fan base.

We decided the brand of our band would be developed by the initial theme of our music video, as well as our costume choice, set location, and makeup.
To market our ideas, we used heavy influence of social media as one strategy.

Learning about producing films really opened my eyes to how much beyond the visuals go into each element. The music video was challenging because we had to make use of what we had and considering we didn't have all the equipment that artists use to create what they distribute.

We knew that we had a very specific audience to target, which  is why we chose to make our band  modern day version of the greasers from the 1950's. Its creative and uncommon amongst bands now days. Since we knew the alternative listeners want the quirky, unique productions that differ strongly from pop culture or rap for instance.
