Week Discussion

So to address how the media has been beneficial during the quarantine process, quite honestly there are endless ways people are using the technology to stay connected. Of course the news is producing tons of information and that includes newspapers along with virtual articles. This  is keeping everyone connected to the virus, the government, as well as the economy. But people are also using media as ways to better themselves physically, mentally, spiritually, and to help strengthen many of those attributes while they have time to do so. LOTS OF TIME.

Of course movies, tv shows, podcasts, youtube, and social media are all helping people get their mind of the fact they can’t do much outside their house. We all are probably guilty of sitting in front of our TVs a little too long during quarantine, but if it’s making everyone feel better, then media is benefiting in many ways much larger then just to kill time. Media is a comfort.

Non Copyright Music: BLOG 20

Well, I’ve been listening to so much music I guess you could say my ears hurt. But after looking through song after song (all non copyrighted of course) I waited until I heard music that told the same story of the picture going on in my head. With that being said, I chose a song titled
Catch Me When I Fall by Arc North.

I was on YouTube looking for non copyrighted songs and I found this beautiful song and i mean “catch me while i fall” sounds just so delicate which exactly what I was looking to turn the idea of this film into. As of now the song is aimed to play for about 2 minutes and 2 seconds which falls perfectly into the requirements.

I’m very excited to begin filming and how this is going to all turn out! Hope everyone is staying safe

Change: BLOG 18

Hi okay so this week I was going back and forth with some ideas for the new opening but every time I felt I had something, it turned out something was preventing me from being able to execute to the best of my abilities.... cough cough covid-19. Anyways, i mentioned before I want to stay with the same genre, target audience, ect... and that comment remains. But instead of introducing a conflict, I want to just introduce the main characters, sort of.

I want the opening to just be two people in a large room dancing. Slow music, very romantic, very intimate. The film will be in black and white, and I’m going to try my best to make it almost like silhouettes dancing around while the credits are rolling. The title is going to remain the same, as well as the fonts for now. Monday-Sunday of next week I’m going to film because editing will be a pain. I have to select a new song as well because I still haven’t heard back from Sony about the original song I wanted to license. Now I’m going to pick a song that isn’t copyrighted and that I can just use without relying on someone to give me permission. The music will be almost a jazz style, fun, but subtle, almost background music. I’m steering away from any dialogue. I really don’t think it’s necessary for the opening. The costumes will be simple. Black and white like i had planned before. Except no gray because there will only be 2 characters in the opening rather then 3.

I’m trying to cover as much of the opening as I can, but with everything going on I know everyone is kinda doing their own thing. Later tonight I’ll post a new blog with pictures of the set and possibly some costumes ideas. Until then

Emergency: BLOG 17

Due to the COVID-19 global emergency, the resources I was utilizing as far as set location, actors, props, and crew have become very limited and/or no longer available for my use. I know because of this crisis, the entire school system is out of sorts and a lot of students are going to be rearranging their film openings and ideas to fit their current lifestyle.

Currently for me, I am stuck at home, pulling out my hair because both my male actors are in quarantine, the set I wanted to film at is closed and “only offering takeout services” and practically the entire world is nested in their homes not giving a damn to help me with my school project. It’s totally understandable, but also not very helpful.

This sounds just as annoying as the moment this idea popped into my head, as I’m sure you’ve been reading probably every other student express their troubles with the coronavirus, but I AM going to have to change my film project. I have some storylines, and I am staying with the romance genre, but today, I decided to commit to the change.

I don’t think I fully understood how this virus was going to effect the world. I really wasn’t taking it as serious as I should, and that was completely wrong of me. I didn’t see the possible outcomes, and I definitely didn’t see it getting this close to home.

I blogged earlier this morning showing my camera and all excited, still thinking of shots and angles for my film opening, I jotted down some sketches for the marketing posters, only to later get slapped in the face with reality and come to the senses that this is just not going to be possible due to everything going on. I’m going to use this next week to seriously start getting this ready to film and edit because time is ticking and I’m running a close race with quarantine.

Until tomorrow.

Camera: BLOG 16

Hi everyone!
I hope everyone is staying safe and catching up on some good sleep, working out, reading or whatever you chose to do with this excessive time at home!!

I wanted to introduce my film tool today and share with you why I want to film with this camera rather then just and iPhone lens.
This LUMIX camera is what we are going to be working with while filming this opening. I wanted to use this camera because I find having better quality leads to more people being intrigued into watching your presentation. I will also be using this camera to record my CCR.
I will be doing another posting today regarding media posters I want to incorporate in my marketing and sketches of them will be posted later today!

Hope everyone stays safe and has a great weekend!

Fonts: BLOG 15

Sooooo I was just laying in bed you know quarantine and all, and decided well let’s find some fonts to use for the opening. And I did just that.

I looked up some websites with fonts for film credits and I found one called Font Space. After browsing around the different options and specifically narrowing down on categories pertaining to my genre, I picked two different fonts... one for the credits and then one for the title  “Love and Games.”

Here is what I came up with for the first font. I selected this one because I wanted a cursive kind of font but not something you wouldn’t be able to read or have to look twice at to see what it was saying. I like how the L in love kind of goes through to the end of the word and draws the readers eyes to finish the sentence.

As you can see the second one will be used to credits. I selected this font because I didn’t want it to be too crazy or take much attention away from the film since it will be shown in the back. Contrary to how it appears on the blog, the credits will be less bold and more subtle in comparison to the title font which will be big, bold, and possible in red, but I’m still deciding on that one!

Changes: BLOG 14

Good Evening!!

So I wanted to address the film opening and the change I want to make to it and why.
I want to simplify my piece because I feel like I was putting a little more then I needed to and for the point I’m trying to get across within my 2 minutes, it was not needed. I feel like I was going to be trying to film way too many shots and angles and would eventually get lost with what I was trying to do in the opening which is mainly introduce my 3 main characters and give little details of the conflict.

I talked with some classmates as well as my teacher because I was getting a little frustrated  and just wanted to change my entire idea all together, impulsively. Thank goodness I was talked out of that one because otherwise I would have made it just so much harder on myself. We came to the conclusion that I need to take a deep breathe, simplify my ideas and blog about it lol! So this is where I currently am mentally!

Location: BLOG 13

So I wanted to give some visual examples of the set and what it looks like, just to create a better image in everyone's head.

So this is the front of the bar and will probably used for only a few shots of the film. This entrance is going to be used for when Grayson and Adrianna walk into the bar and is the first shot that is going to establish their romance and that they are the two in a relationship.

This next photo is the inside of the bar which the majority of Love and Games will be filmed. This is going to be the place where Grant is introduced as well as his eye for Adrianna. This will be the set for the remaining of the film opening and will be the establishing shot at the very start of the film to introduce credits as well!

Target Audience: BLOG 12

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to discuss representation of my film opening as well as the
target audience that I'm going to be  reaching out to.

Representation-

Since I'm doing a romantic piece with both lead male and female characters, I wanted to make sure the female lead is the primary focus of the film, due to the under representation of women in the industry. I'm going to establish this by always reflecting back to her and base the film off her feelings and the guy she will need to chose. My ensemble characters are going to be a diverse group, and will include some Hispanic, and African Americans to show that my main characters are not associated with a "white only" friend group.

Target Audience-

After researching the genre, 84% of viewers are female. The age range is between typically 13-18.

The reason the female audience is attracted so heavily in this genre is due to the idea that the film follows the female character which I'm following to embrace the romance genre. Previously,
(BLOG 2) I talked about '50 Shades of Grey' because it was an example of a movie in the romance category. With that being said, I explained how my film is utilizing a lot of the same representations, like colors incorporated in the costumes- blacks, whites, and grays. Also, like the opening of 50 Shades of Grey, my opening focuses on character development.

Costume and Colors: BLOG 10

Costume Design

For the costume of the three main characters, I wanted to have a pattern of
blacks, whites, and grays

I wanted the first male love interest to be wearing black to represent
his character of almost the villain/evil personality tendencies.

For the boyfriend character, he will be probably dressed in white or a lighter
color to represent being more of a nice guy with less of a dark side.

For the female character, possibly a neutral color to represent the idea of
her indecisiveness and being stuck in the middle of these two young men.

Group Meetings: BLOG 9

Happy Tuesday!

So I met with a couple classmates today and it definitely helped clear up a lot. Just being able to talk to people about my ideas and not have them look at me like I'm crazy made me feel like my tangled up thoughts are starting to sound a little more do-able.

The main thing they assisted me in was selecting the title after the list I put together the other day. With that being said I chose Love and Games as the title of the short film! Exciting!!

Title : BLOG 8

Hello everybody!

In all honesty, I have no idea what to write about today! Things are moving a little slower then I anticipated regarding the music and cast, but I have begin with rough drafts of my script outline!

That will be posted next week and hopefully it will be the final version ( but knowing myself it might be changing once or twice more). Although I’m at a lack of inspiration today, I do indeed want to discuss one thing and that is the title of my film opening! I’m going to put my rough draft list below...

- Play Fair

- 3 Edged Love

- Pick a Side

- Nice Guys Finish Last

- Love and Games

- Talk Nice to Me

- To Love or To Play

Next class I’m going to ask my classmates what each title reminds them of or what idea pops into their head when hearing the names. This will hopefully help me decide which would best represent my film opening and its plot!

Until next time :)
